Fourth Quarter Overview

Pre-Kindergarten will have two more studies they will be learning from the Creative Curriculum. During the Balls Study, they will look at different aspects of the ball such as shape, weight, size, speed, hollow or solid. Our last study will be the Kindergarten study. Here They will be learning about transitioning into Kindergarten for the next school year. They will continue to work on naming letters, writing names, and counting skills.

Kindergarten will spend the 4th quarter composing numbers using tens and ones and composing shapes. They will also study plants, different cultures, needs and wants, and learn more about identifying the main idea and key details in stories.

First grade is continuing to learn about complex vowel sounds and word endings in phonics. First grade is working on opinion writing in reading, as well as measurement and geometry in math.

Second grade is learning all about telling time and money in math class this quarter! Second graders will continue to build fluency with addition and subtraction as well. In science, the learning will be centered around animals, plants, and their life cycles. Finally, in reading class, second grade will be learning how to find the main idea of a text. Hard work will prepare these students for third grade.

Third grade continues to explore a variety of text structures while working to perfect their informative writing. They will also study elapsed time, the solar system's inner and outer planets, as well as learn more about how the United States began.

Fourth Grade in ELA will be reading informative texts while identifying nonfiction text features and compose informative writing pieces. We will also dive into traditional literature text types while identifying the theme. In addition, students will strengthen their understanding of informal language, different types of verbs, paraphrasing, using context clues, and making inferences. In math, 4th grade will be multiplying and dividing fractions, measurement- length, area, angles, lines, and classifying shapes. In social studies, 4th grade will be studying the Civil War and the Aftermath. In science, 4th grade will be studying environmental resources, space, and forms of energy.

Fifth Grade is working hard on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators! Identifying and understanding animal adaptations in Science, and reading and writing about the American Revolutionary War in ELA and Social Studies!
